BPD is a world-wide network of partners involving government, business, civil society and donors.

Our Focus

BPD has a broad mandate to work with partnerships that provide water and sanitation to the poor. One of our key goals is to learn what makes these partnerships work and in which circumstances they are effective. This learning is then fed into BPD training and project support.

Since 1998 BPD has undertaken a range of research, often through action research programmes with actual partnerships that work in and with poor communities.

The research covers two broad areas:

  • How multi-sector partnerships work (how they are formed, governed and evaluated)
  • How water and sanitation services can best be delivered to poor communities
